Tomorrow is the Nyepi day in Bali, so we will enjoy a peaceful and silent day here.
In reality we will have a strict curfew here tomorrow. No traffic, no cars or motorbikes or airplanes, in the whole of Bali island tomorrow. And all shops, restaurants, ATMs and even the airport will be closed. Bali will be completely silent tomorrow!
Nyepi day is one of the most important and sacred holidays in the Balinese Hindu calendar. No activities are allowed to take place. It is a day of reflection where noises are kept to a minimum throughout the island.
One of the most important preparations before the coming Nyepi day is the purification Ceremony, known locally as "Melasti". Melasti is a ceremony to clean up the sacred property of the temple at any nearest water front, such as the sea, lake or river.
On the day before Nyepi, the main attraction will be the parade, with the Ogoh Ogoh - huge colorful figures of demons that will be carried or driven around in every town and village in Bali. The parade ends before midnight with the burning of the Ogoh - Ogohs as a symbol of getting rid of the evil spirits.
Please be informed that our guests are asked to stay inside our villa area and when listening to music or watching TV in the villa to keep the sound at minimum level, to close the curtains and not to have any lights on outside the villa.
But if you are here the day before Nyepi you can of course get out and watch the parade. Here is a video from the Ogoh-Ogoh parade in Sidemen 2015.
